About The Artist
Lynda Ashaw (b. 1988, New York) is a Puerto Rican artist, educator, and art historian whose work explores memory, migration, and the construction of home. Through her practice, "Myopian Arte", she creates blurred, emotionally resonant imagery reflecting her nearsighted perspective as a mother, wife, and cultural archivist.
She holds a B.A. in Art History from CUNY Queens College (2012), where her studies shifted from classical traditions to highlighting overlooked Afro-Caribbean, Latin American, and diasporic narratives, fueling her mission to honor and render her heritage through painting.
Ashaw has lived a nomadic life as the spouse of an active-duty soldier, raising three children and creating art in Virginia, Colorado, Germany, Georgia, and now Puerto Rico. Her work spans commissions, murals, educational programs, and ephemeral pieces documenting local textures, women’s stories, and generational connections.
Her permanent 9x10-foot mural at Simón Mall, Plaza Carolina, Puerto Rico, part of Emergente 2025, directed by Ana I. Feliciano, is publicly viewable and celebrates Boricua identity. Her recent projects include Better Than Yesterday, a living collection of paintings and visual essays, and the ongoing Platos y Juegos: 2025 collection, with smaller works available online and larger pieces in progress.
Professionally, Ashaw is supported by her husband, Tino Ashaw, who manages her career, produces professional media, and connects with artists, businesses, and institutions. tinoashaw.com
She shares Latinx art history and research on her Facebook page, soon offering a paid membership for deeper engagement. Ashaw also creates Quién Es, spotlighting underrepresented Latinx artists, and The Art Tip Jar, offering practical tools for new painters and homeschooling families via her Instagram page.
She lives and works in Puerto Rico.
