TOA ALTA
Una carta de amor a Toa Alta — to the streets, skies, trees and ordinary details that became part of my visual memory long before I knew I was collecting them.
A place can change and still live inside you.
Toa Alta is tied to family, memory and the everyday Puerto Rico
that rarely announces itself as something important.
Cables overhead. The pueblo. Fruit trees. A sky turning pink.
A rainbow arriving over the houses. Places where people stop,
talk, eat, work and continue with their day.
I am interested in those details because they disappear easily.
Painting gives me a way to hold them a little longer.
Memory edits the photograph.
The camera records the place. Painting decides what I want to remember about it.
Toa Alta, Todavía Te Amo.
The work holds affection and ache at the same time:
loving a place while noticing how it changes.
I am not trying to freeze Toa Alta in the past.
I am painting the relationship between memory,
what is still here and what keeps moving.

Colores de Cielo Pinta Toa Alta
That in-between hour when the day exhales, lights begin to appear and an ordinary street suddenly glows.
Rainbow in Toa Alta
A fleeting island moment: tropical foliage, neighborhood wires and color breaking across the sky.
The Toa Alta notebook.
Not every photograph becomes a painting. They are visual notes: color, atmosphere, objects and little pieces of life I do not want to forget.
